License Plates Raise Money for Preservation
Lewis and Clark License Plate
In 2001, the Idaho Legislature approved creation of the Lewis and Clark commemorative license plate, featuring an image of one of Idaho’s most famous individuals, Sacajawea. A portion of the proceeds from each plate supports stewardship and education projects relating to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail in Idaho.
The stewardship programs receive funds from both the purchase of new Lewis and Clark plates and for each annual renewal. Programs that receive support include ongoing improvements at legacy projects of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial, educational events and activities, and trail maintenance. This plate program provides a critical annual revenue stream that supports Idaho’s Lewis and Clark heritage.
