The Idaho State Historical Society reports that during this week in history:

Bear River was discovered September 9, 1812, by Robert Stuart's fur trade party on their way from Snake River in search of South Pass.

The following ordinance was passed by the Boise City Council on September 7, 1889: "It shall be unlawful for any person to open, set up or keep a bawdy house or house of ill-fame in Boise City within thirteen blocks of the public school building."

The Pledge of Allegiance was first published on September 8, 1892.

The Idaho Central Railway Celebration Day on September 13, 1887, included a free round-trip excursion from any point on the Idaho Division of the Oregon Short Line to Nampa.

Elvis Presley's first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on September 9, 1956, drew a TV audience estimated at over 50 million.

During a robbery on September 17, 1969, then U.S. Senator Len B. Jordan from Idaho prevented the attempted holdup in his apartment building in Washington, DC, the "good old-fashioned way—with a stiff upper right to the jaw."
