The Idaho State Historical Society is governed by a board of trustees, responsible for administering the powers and duties required to preserve and protect any historical record of the history and culture of Idaho, as described in Idaho Code §§ 67-4123 and 67-4126. The last quarterly meeting of the ISHS board of trustees was 4 November 2009. The next quarterly trustees' meeting is 8 & 9 January 2010, in Boise. Appointment and Term of Office The board of trustees consists of seven members. The Governor appoints the members of the board. Board members serve terms of six years, except where appointed for the unexpired portion of a term. No board member may serve more than two consecutive full terms. Idaho Code § 67-4124. Conduct of BusinessThe board must meet at least once each quarter. The board may meet at other times as necessary for the orderly conduct of its business. Four members of the board constitute a quorum and the action of a majority of the members present at a meeting constitutes the decision of the board. The statute requires at least 72 hours’ notice of regular meetings. Officers are elected to serve terms lasting two years. Idaho Code § 67-4125. Specific Powers and DutiesThe board of trustees encourages and promotes interest in the history of Idaho and the Historical Society. The board appoints a director of the Historical Society and advises him in the performance of his duties. The board formulates general policies affecting the agency.
