The SHPO is the state clearinghouse for documentation of all archaeological investigations and all recorded archaeological sites in Idaho. There are over 27,000 archaeological reports and more than 48,000 archaeological site records in this inventory. This information is generated by the SHPO, other government agencies, Certified Local Governments, educational institutions, research organizations, private consultants, and independent researchers. It is available to qualified academic researchers or professionals gathering information to evaluate the effect of federal undertakings on archaeological and historic sites. The Archaeological Survey of Idaho (ASI) Site Form is the standard for recording all archaeological sites, mining, timber, and livestock industries sites, and linear sites associated with foot and wagon travel.
