Woolverton Family, 1864

"This morning go into the city which is only a city in name, just a small mining town, the people mostly transient keeping all manner of supplies for miners and the emigrants to Oregon, at very exorbitant prices. Our roll of "greenbacks" which had been tucked away for three months because there was nothing to buy, was now brought forth. We, however, had more flour than we would use and sold it in exhange for gold dust, receiving for it $16.00 per hundred. One of our party sold a feather bed for $1 per lb. His wife refused for a while to give up her favorite bed, but they must have something to eat and money to pay ferrage,- so the feather bed went."

Current Observations/Journal Entry:

"We did not stop in Boise; rather we continued on past, heading west toward the Ward Massacre site. Since this is actually our home, we passed it up for the more outlying areas; the Idaho State Historical Museum, the Bown House, and the Oregon Trail Historic Reserver all offer unique glimpses at Idaho history and the Oregon Trail experience."
